I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with you all this school year. My name is Stacy Cabrera, and this is my fourth year on campus here at Mira Costa. Before coming to Costa, I taught tenth and twelfth grade English in Downey – my hometown. I received my Bachelors degree in English, with a minor in Philosophy, from California Baptist University in Riverside in 2007, and completed my Teaching Credential from Cal State Long Beach in spring of 2009. I also recently completed my Masters degree in Philosophy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles in spring of 2013.
I really enjoy the rigour of the curriculum here at Costa, and I am constantly impressed and in awe of our students’ abilities, commitment, eagerness, and willingness to trust in their teachers’ guidance. As has always been true of any teaching environment that I have set, I hold students to a very high standard, and enjoy watching as students expand their minds beyond ‘the box.’ Over the course of this school year, I will be lucky to work with both freshmen and juniors, and I look forward to being a part of their growth and experiences in this incredibly exciting – and important – developmental period of their lives.
English literature and language have always been great passions of mine, in their ability to express the meaningful ideas throughout history. Teaching students to appreciate and understand language and literature not only makes them more open‐minded thinkers, but more aware citizens. By the end of this class, I hope students will find not only an appreciation of literature for what it is, but also realize that literature is a useful tool for understanding the world around us. I hope to share my intrinsic love of knowledge and of learning with my students in such a way as to motivate them, as well as extend to them the means of discovering their own values through the educational process.
If you ever have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact me either by phone (ext. 5200), or by email ([email protected]). You may use these as well to schedule a personal meeting with me. I look forward to meeting with, speaking to, and working with all of you!
